  1. You have just described my fridge right now. I also live in a city suburb, so fruit veggie markets are a fair distance away from me. these food bloggers make me (Slightly) ashamed at my vegetables do not come from the farmer’s market or that my butter and milk is not raw. Also about the kitchen, gosh my kitchen has drab written all over it; nothing matches! I think I own the worlds oldest rice cooker as a centre piece. (-_-)”
However I love the idea of these pies, and odd enough I have everything for these in fridge now. That filling would also make a great fritter with a corn meal coating.
You are so Witty and produce such delicious food, how rare is that?

  2. I absolutely love your honesty. And I feel the same! I sometimes get weighed down by the PERFECT and STUNNING photos and recipes on other food blogs. It’s hard, but I try and remind myself why I bother sharing what I do with the world and that it’s about my own personal journey. Keep doing what you do – your readers follow you for a reason. Thanks for choosing to share with the rest of us!

  3. Just discovered your blog and this is the first post I’ve read. Love your honesty, but isn’t part of food blogging showing the food/recipes in the best possible way? Your photos are radiant and if you’re not staging, styling in some way I would be shocked…..

For those of us that cook using leftover odds and ends is the ultimate in recipe development! The Kitchen Sink Hand Pies are exceptional!

    • Deb, hahaa of course this took some PAINFUL staging to photogragh hahaaa. If I was expressing myself correctly it, would be towards all the exotic ingredients that sometimes makes me scratch my head and go, “reeeally?”. A lot of it felt more intended to illustrate a certain “life style” or graphic satisfaction, rather than good foods if you will. Just feels a bit funny sometimes ;P

I now REALLY need to go out and do some shopping since my fridge is emptied out..

  4. What a refreshing and fun post to read. And I love the Lord of the Rings mentions, too. I was just wondering if you could use puff pastry instead of the pie dough for these little guys? They look amazing, btw!

    • Grace, haha. I’m a big Rings fan. Puff pastry is slightly softer and not as sturdy but you can certainly use it. Just make sure you work quickly as they get soft much quicker. And the texture won’t be as firm.

  5. First time visitor, and I love it.
This post is pretty much my thoughts exactly anytime I think about taking photos for a recipe to post.
These look & sound great, and seeing as how our refrigerator sounds quite like yours, I’ll be coming back to this recipe soon I’m quite sure.

    • Sarah, I LOVE your blog! Your photos are amazing, so calming with ease and a bit of lazy-weekend-ness. Gorgeous.

  6. This post is just too funny and I am severely intrigued by your addition of powdered sugar to these delicious looking hand pies.

  7. I’m very suspicious of pastel colored lives, or maybe it’s my excuse. You’re one of my ‘reading’ blogs, meaning that I actually enjoy reading it more than the recipes. Your pics MORE than make up for styling, which by the way, you do! You just don’t add too many extras, just the food. And isn’t this a food blog after all? We here, buenos aires, eat ham and cheese empanadas and double crusted pies with sugar on top.

  8. Man, I’m surely going to try this hand pie. My mom makes some great iogurt and I’ve made some pretty good pastry with it. This one sounds amazing!

By the way, you are a freaking genious! I just love the way you write and your relationship with food. And I totally feel ya! I never get how the elves sustain themselves (and I’m a vegetarian!). Let us dwarves unite and feast on butter!
