  1. Made this cake as part of a fairly elaborate layer cake. Beautiful.

Just about to make the cake on its own for a dinner party.

      • K, made this last night and bf said it’s f-ing ridiculous. And I made it gluten free, thank you, which he didn’t even realize before trying. AMAZING & amazingly easy. Love it. Thank you!!

  2. For his birthday my boyfriend couldn’t decide between black forest cake, oreo cheese cake and ice cream cake so I made him a sort of hybrid of the three – black forest cake, cookies and cream ice cream topped with cookies and cream frosting. I call it rocky mountain black forest ice cream cake (as the frosting was just piled on at the end :P.)

I used your cake recipe for the black forest cake layer and the whole thing was delicious (the cake was so easy to make). I used a 10-inch springform pan as that made topping the cake with an even layer of ice-cream easier.

Thank-you for this recipe. There are so many more of your creations I want to try.

  3. Finally made this cake, it turned out exactly as pictured. However, I expected some reasonable level of cherry flavor but it fell quite flat. It could do with the quality of cherries. I bought them from Whole Foods, their 365 brand. I think having them chopped frozen cherries tossed with cherry liquor may make the cake taste better?

  4. I just found this blog and I am obsessed with you, your writing and the recipes. Dear Lord I you are the first blogger that I don”t go like blah blah blah jump to the recipe. I look forward to doing this cake just because it was my favorite and Dad would take me to get it and it was magical. Sadly I always see recipes that don’t sound right or are just too complicated. Thank you for being so uncomplicated.
