Wontons for Him

  1. Just discovered your blog and have been reading a bunch of your posts and love them all, but this one wins the prize. Since I’m from NYC I was pretty sure that I, too, had cabs down pat, but then I went and moved to Beijing and it just kinda went downhill from there. Not a cab ride would transpire where I did not feel that I had to yell at the driver, either to berate him for taking a job for which he was eminently ill-suited, or for failing to turn on the heat in the dead of winter or the a/c in the height of summer, or for not bathing in the past decade, or for a myriad of other ills. Moving to New Zealand has helped to restore my calm and my doctors tell me that they’ll loosen my straitjacket in just a few more months.

    • James, wahahahahahhaaa!! I TOTALLY GET what you’re saying!!! I now own 4 bikes, and that’s how I get around, if I EVER decide to go outside. You enjoy New Zealand. It’s the Shire compare to the MORDOR that I’m still living in!!!

  2. Hi there,

Before I even start my comment I wanna say THANK YOU your blog is AMA-ZING for any foodies out there!! I’m gonna make a lot of your recipes in the next few weeks (Sichuan oil, wontons, your golden foundation + Niu Rou Mian- I am SO excited).

Even though I am familiar with some asian sauces and all, I wanna make sure my recipes are perfectly flavourful that’s why I’m writing to you. Your links for Dark Asian Vinegar and Rice Vinegar doesn’t work anymore :( Thought I would let you know :) I would like to make sure I buy/own the good ingredients.

Thank you so much! Glory to your recipes!

  3. Spicy Wontons is my kryptonite. Although I couldn’t for the life of me find a thin WHITE wonton wrapper, I settled on the yellow one. The salty duck egg is definitely a unique twist in the stuffing. It added a certain saltiness so the wontons were also good in a soup, too.

  4. I’ve just discovered Lady and Pups and It’s a gas to read, as well as an inspiration. You’ve got a new fan.
Question: In the recipe for Wontons for Him, you indicate smearing a half teaspoon of pork mixture onto the wrapper. Is that correct, or did you mean to write half a tablespoon?
