Doesn’t look special but this beautifully ripen Doesn’t look special but this beautifully ripen fig came from a tiny tree we grow on our balcony! Herbs sure, but I’ve never successfully grown fruits before. I’m awash with parental joy.
Summer, cold cheese. Winter, warm cheese. Is the Summer, cold cheese. Winter, warm cheese. Is there a season not for cheese?
The year was 1805 and 1957. Two women, separated The year was 1805 and 1957. Two women, separated by time and space, both had a decision to make at the age of 27. The first woman's husband had just passed away, leaving his champagne vineyard suddenly headless. In a time when men dominated the business world, woman made an extraordinary decision and assumed as the head of the company, transforming it into a world-class brand of excellence. Her name, is Madame Clicquot, or, the Grande Dame of Champagne. The second woman, marked by a society scornful of her gender, decided to leave Japan. She became a formidable force in the realm of contemporary art. Her name is Yayoi Kusama, one of the most important living Japanese artists. Now in 2021, I, also a woman, feel quite special to be part of the union of these two extraordinary females of seemingly parallel destinies. The new vintage, Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2012 by Yayoi Kusama. However jaded and unbothered 2020 has left me, or most of us feeling, the playful and exquisite design and timely narrative of this collaboration is truly invigorating. I feel bubbly and deserving, a rare personal phenomenon. But hey, if 2020 has taught me anything, it is to celebrate now and look towards the future. So join me, raise your glass. Onward, and cheers. Don't forget to enjoy responsibly. @veuveclicquot #veuveclicquot #liveclicquot #lagrandedame

New recipe: Finally, as promised, your final guid New recipe: Finally, as promised, your final guide to the perfect English tea scone. This recipe is years in the making, addressing all the common mistakes (and there are a lot)that most recipes out there (and I) have been making. There’s a video that explains what a perfect tea scone entails (a tall, slightly lopsided shape with a single crack in the middle, and no, it’s not like a biscuit) and how to get there. The recipe is on the blog now, follow link in profile. •

ABOUT THE LADY, THE PUPS, AND BEYOND

Hi, I’m Mandy Lee, Taiwan-born, Vancouver-raised, and slow-aged in New York for the better part of my life.  Until moving to Beijing where, out of sheer desperation and agony, I started Lady and Pups – an angry food blog in 2012, my misery outlet where it marked the beginning of my pre-midlife crisis.  If you don’t know what it’s like to move from NYC to China… anger doesn’t even cut it.  This little project is a phoenix rising out of the tormenting flames of living there with all its misery.  So come share how I turned a lot of frustration and anger in a lovely meal.

You should know that I excel at giving unsolicited opinions.  I love movies.  I love traveling.  I am a dog person, but only because I’ve never met a people cat.  I’m also conflicted about whether pigs should be pets or SPAM, which makes me a hypocrite.  I dream of having a….      READ MORE
