  1. These look delicious. I plan on making these for dinner. One question: can you explain the measurement for the water? Is it 1 cup and 1/8? Thank you!

    • Oh I’m terribly sorry. It mean 1.8 cups as in metric system. So that would be converted to 1 and 4/5 cups (that’s why I wrote it that way cuz this sounds even more confusing). You could reduce the vegetable oil to 1/4 cup if you like your creeps chewier than soft. I hope this helps.

  2. I just got back from a visit to Taiwan, and am craving Dan bing! I am so excited to have found your post , and will try making them tomorrow! How did you get your chopsticks to stick together? Did you glue them?

    • Kks, this dough is really more like a batter that you cook like a French crepe. If you are looking for more of a scallion pancake recipe, check out the recent scallion flat breads post.

  3. I can’t even describe how excited I am to see this recipe. I lived in Taiwan 8 years ago, and was OBSESSED with these little packets of deliciousness.
I had them for breakfast everyday (from the neighborhood vendor who made the crepe right in front of you on a big round griddle, laid it out over the thin layer of egg and gave it to you folded neatly into a little plastic baggie after dousing it with an amazing garlicky sauce. The perfect, portable breakfast to go! I’ve been trying to recreate them on my own & have been searching for a recipe ever since I returned.
Thanks for posting such detailed directions- I can’t WAIT to make (and eat!) these!!

  4. I just made these this morning and the result was a wonderfully light and fluffy dan bing. The ones I’ve had before on the street were a bit greasy so this was awesome. I also used a bit of the Sichuan chili oil in the batter for a little fragrance and the chili broad bean paste instead of chili sauce. You did it again Mandy!

  5. Mandy, we don’t have tapioca flour here. Could I use something else? I’m not trying to be authentic LOL. Cornstarch? Or just do that part with wheat flour? What do you think?

    • Minik, you can try with all wheat flour although I’m not sure how it would turn out… Cornstarch is not the same with tapioca starch so I don’t think it’s interchangeable :(
